Effective Participation of Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities in Jurisdictional REDD+

Registration is closed for this event
Indigenous Peoples and Local Community (IPLC) engagement in jurisdictional-scale REDD+ (JREDD+) processes is critical to their success. This session will feature perspectives from IPLC organizations, NGOs and standards-setting bodies to reflect on examples of challenges and opportunities of effective participation of IPLCs in JREDD+ processes in several tropical forest countries.

This session will dive into several examples of the effective participation of Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities (IPLC) in jurisdictional REDD+ in Central America, South America and Central Africa/Congo Basin.

Panelists will share their experiences with addressing challenges to ensure the effective participation of IPLCs through different approaches tailored to different regional contexts.

Key themes to be discussed include: the participatory construction and validation of benefit sharing plans; effective participation of IPLCs in the development of the TFCI; and the partnership to develop a module on the socio-cultural benefits of forests and REDD+ programs under the Architecture for REDD+ transactions.

Hosted by: Environmental Defense Fund (EDF), Asociación Nacional de Ejecutores de Contrato de Administración (ANECAP), Coordenação das Organizações Indígenas da Amazônia Brasileira (COIAB), Reseu des Populations Autochtones et Locales pour la Gestion Durable des Ecosystemes Forestiers d’Afrique Centrale (REPALEAC), Red Mexicana De Organizaciones Campesinas Forestales (RedMocaf), Architecture for REDD+ Transactions (ART), and Re:Wild
