Recognizing that innovative solutions and strategic collaboration are essential to accelerate country-led implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, (GBF) through National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs), 21 governments and 8 supporting organizations came together to launch the NBSAP Accelerator Partnership at CBD COP15.
The NBSAP Accelerator Partnership aims to strengthen the capacity of countries to deliver on their NBSAPs and GBF. It advocates for increased support to countries for the development, update, and implementation of their NBSAPs by aligning flexible resources and other available support for country-led processes.
In this context, the Governments of Colombia and Germany, as well as the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), and the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) will organize a session to launch the operational phase of the NBSAP Accelerator Partnership, emphasizing its role in strengthening capacities of countries to deliver NBSAPs and meet the 23 targets of the GBF.
The launch event for the NBSAP Accelerator Partnership will take place in New York in September 2023, at the margins of the United Nations General Assembly, the UN Secretary General’s 2030 SDG and Climate Ambition Summits, and NY Climate week.
This event will bring together government representatives, international organizations, civil society, academia, and the private sector to launch the Partnership’s operations, and to discuss the importance of NBSAPs and the role of the NBSAP Accelerator Partnership in supporting their implementation. This session will aim to facilitate dialogue among diverse stakeholders, including governments, NGOs, Indigenous Peoples, and other relevant actors, to match the needs of countries with available services to accelerate the implementation of ambitious NBSAPs.
This session will also showcase best practices that have effectively supported the implementation of NBSAPs, highlighting the benefits and transformative potential of mainstreaming biodiversity considerations across sectors. This will generate momentum and foster a movement for biodiversity conservation, engaging all of society in the effort to address the biodiversity crisis at both national and global levels.
This session will be screened live on Nature4Climate - YouTube
